Summary of Rebecca Musser's The Witness Wore Red

#1 I was excited to go outside and play, but my mother kept the destination a secret. We drove up into the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, and went for a walk on the grassy knolls behind my school, Eastwood Elementary.

#2 I hated how we were so conspicuous in our long-sleeved shirts, prairie dresses, and exceptionally long braids. We were the only family in town who wore such clothing.

#3 My mother used to play a game with me and my siblings where she would throw handfuls of feathers into the air and we would have to gather them up. She explained to us that words are like feathers, and that it is very easy for them to come out of our mouth, but very difficult to get them back in.

#4 I thought about how my mother used her words. She was kind and encouraging, and she prayed with us every night and morning. She would tell us stories, which would haunt us later as we grew up.
