Summary of Pete Blaber's The Mission, The Men, and Me

#1 I was born and raised in Oak Park, Illinois. My parents gave birth to nine children. Food was always scarce, and we considered bologna a delicacy. I had a talent for finding things, and I never failed in a finding mission.

#2 I had a lot of fun bombing cars with my friends. It was a way of imbibing what I have since come to know as the warrior’s cocktail, which was the thrill of the hunt mixed with the thrill of the chase.

#3 The four of us waited for a parade of buses loaded with prom couples on their way to the dance. We drank our beer and talked about how stupid all the other guys were for going to the prom and missing out on all this fun.

#4 I attended Southern Illinois University, in Carbondale, Illinois, because it was in the middle of the Shawnee National Forest. I fell in love with the area, and spent most weekends hiking with friends into the forest’s roughest and least explored recesses.
