Summary of Mary Otto's Teeth

#1 The Miss Maryland USA pageant was held on a cold evening in the suburban hotel ballroom. Mamé Adjei, a dark, slender contestant from Silver Spring, was trying not to show her shyness. She had no fairy godmother. She had grown up in Ghana and Switzerland, and had to repeat a grade in elementary school because of all the moving around.

#2 The Miss USA pageant is a competition between many different states, and each contestant is required to have a perfect smile. Mamé Adjei, who was crowned Miss Maryland USA, said that she couldn’t remember the last time she had visited a dentist, but she saw the opportunity to get her teeth improved as an opportunity that came with success.

#3 In the song, Cole talks about his crooked teeth and how they are a symbol of his authenticity. But in reality, many people feel they need to change themselves and their appearance to fit society’s expectations.

#4 The treatment plan included Invisalign braces for Adjei. She would have a new set of clear plastic appliances every two weeks, which would press her teeth into an improved configuration. She would also need to wear a retainer for two years.
