#1 I was a tomboy, but when games turned official under the auspices of the Fleetwood Elementary Phys-Ed Department, I transformed into a spaz. I knew in my heart I had great potential, but my knowing didn’t translate into hitting the ball that was coming my way.

#2 I had a toothache that afternoon, and I was sure that the dentist was going to have to take my tooth. I was already familiar with the dentist, as I had terrible teeth. Dr. Singer convinced my parents that if there was any chance of my having normal adult teeth growing in, he must be allowed to do everything imaginable to my baby teeth.

#3 I had woken up with my jaw swollen and seemingly locked, but a diet of milk-shakes didn’t seem like such an awful fate. I was excited by the idea that something was wrong with me.

#4 I had to have my jaw wired shut, and I spent the night in the hospital. I didn’t sleep much, as I was too excited about the prospect of going to the hospital emergency room.
