Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Book Preview:
#1 The book of Jonah follows the story of Jonah, a prophet who was reluctant to step into his role as God’s spokesperson. Instead of heading to Nineveh, where God had commanded, he headed to Tarshish.
#2 The book of Jonah is a vivid picture of distress, fear, and disconnect in just a few verses. It uses the Hebrew word for big fourteen times in its forty-eight verses.
#3 The second important rhetorical device is personification, which means attributing human-like characteristics to something non-human. It adds a certain flair and magic to the story. The Hebrew of verse 5 reads like, the ship threatened to break up.
#4 When the sailors tried to throw Jonah overboard, they prayed to their gods, but it was YHWH who saved him. The sailors were converted, and they began to worship YHWH.
