#1 Tom was so absorbed in his game that he didn’t hear Shirlee vacuuming upstairs. When he did, he was shocked to find a drunk man outside of his door, swaying and holding a knife.
#2 Tom’s game was over. The battle had been lost. Through the darkness, Tom was dimly aware that the noisy Xbox effects had suddenly stopped.
#3 When Dr. Hunter arrived at his house, he was greeted by the sound of gunfire and bombastic music coming from the basement. He went downstairs to find Shirlee Sherman, his housekeeper, covered in blood.
#4 The doctor, who was also a pathologist, saw that it was his son, Thomas Hunter. He dropped to his knees and desperately tried to check for a pulse, but some part of him knew that the boy was dead.
