#1 The Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 was one of the defining events of the twentieth century. It led to the creation of the Soviet Union, which, after the end of World War II, became one of the most important power blocs in the world. However, it is easy to forget that in the years immediately following this revolution, the survival of Communism in Russia was far from certain.

#2 Following the civil war, the Soviet government implemented a new policy that taxed all agricultural production. This led to a shortage of food in many Russian cities by 1927.
