#1 The life of this Lakota boy began in 1831, when the Bad Bow band of the Hunkpapa tribe was camped on the banks of the Elk River, now known as the Yellowstone River, in Montana. His father, Returns Again, gave him his childhood name, Jumping Badger. His uncle, Four Horns, took him into his household and taught him the Lakota way of being. When he was about seven years old, he made a bow with some arrows.
