#3 The Atlantic Wall was the Nazi's defense system for the Atlantic coast of Europe. It was built with the assumption that the Allies would land in the Pas de Calais area, but Rommel also thought that a landing further south in the Bay of the Somme or along the Cotentin Peninsula was possible.

#4 Rommel's command style and constant inspections of the Atlantic Wall had led to significant strengthening of the defenses all along the coast. But he knew there were still gaps and he needed more panzers and Hitler was the only man who could give them to him.
