#1 My life began with my grandfather, Richard Abel Person. He was born in Duluth, Minnesota, to Swedish immigrant parents. When he was just a boy, he began taking to the woods behind his family’s house to practice building campfires and setting homemade snares that brought down rabbits for his family’s dinner.

#2 Dick’s grandparents decided to live a primitive lifestyle, but still earn a living. He joined the army to get a free university education, but a war was raging in Korea. He found himself fighting in the trenches of Incheon.

#3 When the kids were teenagers, they were caught smoking pot by their mother’s boyfriend. The police raided their cabin, and the family went to jail. They were sent to foster families.

#4 My grandparents had an open marriage, and they spent their days pot smoking and their evenings discussing philosophy with friends. The kids dropped out of school one by one, and the family became known as the coolest place to hang out.
