#1 I met film director Mervyn LeRoy in 1958. He had seen me on television and asked if I would meet with him. He suggested that I come to the Warner Bros. studios the next morning and meet him on the soundstage where he was shooting a movie.

#2 I had a close relationship with Jimmy Stewart’s wife, Gloria, years later when I had a successful TV show. One time, when I invited the Stewarts to my house, Gloria warned me that her husband didn’t like to stay up late.

#3 My guest list also included Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé, Jo Stafford and Paul Weston, and Mel Tormé. After dinner, we all went into the living room, and Paul Weston sat down at the piano.

#4 I saw Jimmy Stewart frequently in those days. He even showed up on the final episode of my variety show in 1978, playing the piano and singing his favorite song, Ragtime Cowboy Joe.
