#1 We all think we’re good people, but Jesus says we’re not. We have a problem: all of us think we’re more moral than average. We’re better at everything than everybody, but we’re still humble about it.

#4 The word righteous means approved by God. It’s something God judges as good or right. To be self-righteous means we’ve met that standard in our own eyes. We will stop at nothing to avoid cognitive dissonance, and we will sacrifice anything to preserve our precious illusion.
