#1 The Sabbath is not meant to be an interlude between workweek and weekend, but the climax of living. It is not a day for the sake of the weekdays, but for the sake of Sabbath.

#2 The art of resting is the art of painting on the canvas of time the mysterious grandeur of the climax of creation: as He sanctified the seventh day, so shall we. The love of the Sabbath is the love of man for what he and God have in common.

#3 The Sabbath is a day of total devotion and love. It demands our entire attention, and the service and single-minded devotion of total love. The law demands that we sacrifice some mitzvot for the sake of man, rather than man for the sake of the mitzvot.

#4 The Sabbath is a day of the soul as well as the body. It is a day of rest, holiness, and joy. It is a day that can soothe all sadness away.
