Season of Wolves argues that the post-9/11 era has so far been overwhelmingly understood through the language of terrorism and security. Against these state-spoken and media-echoed narratives, Mohammad-Mahmoud Ould Mohamedou reconstructs a deeper history of the first quarter of the twenty-first century. Through a comprehensive recasting of the events of 11 September to the mid-2020s, and an analysis of their global interrelatedness, he traces the emergence of a new political order marked by war, racism, propaganda, authoritarianism and technological oppression. Bringing together political, artistic socio-economic, cultural and ethical perspectives, Season of Wolves offers a panoramic account of the world remade in the aftermath of 9/11 and lays bare the structures and forces that continue to define our times.

Mohammad-Mahmoud Ould Mohamedou (1968—2024) was Professor and Deputy Director at the Geneva Graduate Institute. He was the author of A Theory of ISIS and Understanding Al Qaeda. He was previously Associate Director of Harvard University’s Programme on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research, a Visiting Professor at Sciences Po Paris and the University of St Gallen, and Mauritania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
