There are few activities more pleasurable than yacht cruising. From Scotland’s west coast to the eastern Mediterranean, and the Baltic to the British Virgin Islands, there are worldwide possibilities for living and exploring while afloat. However, while there is much to be enjoyed, it is vital that the yacht is handled safely and securely at all times, whether on the open water or at rest in a marina.

RYA Yacht Sailing Techniques describes the basic skills that a skipper and crew require to enjoy their cruising in good conditions. It covers the layout and equipment on a small to medium-sized yacht, the essential safety information that all need to know before getting under way, basic maintenance, manoeuvring in a marina, handling under sail, anchoring and mooring, and, of course, man overboard rescue strategy.
