George Orwells 1946 essay, Politics and the English Language, is a sharp critique of the "ugly and inaccurate" written English of his time that examines the connection between political orthodoxies and the debasement of language, and argues that vague, inflated, and clichéd language can distort truth and enable political manipulation.
