Police at the Funeral: A Positronic Books

A missing man, a deeply unhappy family, and a murderer hidden inside one of Cambridge’s most respectable households.

When Andrew Faraday disappears after church one Sunday morning, Albert Campion is drawn into the affairs of the eccentric Faraday family at Socrates Close. Dominating the household is the formidable Great-Aunt Caroline, an elderly matriarch who presides over her financially dependent relatives with the authority of a Victorian monarch.

Then Andrew is found murdered.

Behind the respectable façade lies a household filled with old resentments, rivalries, suppressed hatreds, and secrets accumulated over decades. When another death follows, Campion and his friend Inspector Stanislaus Oates must untangle the Faradays’ complicated relationships before the killer strikes again.

First published in 1931, Police at the Funeral is the fourth Albert Campion mystery and a classic of Golden Age detective fiction, blending an ingenious murder puzzle with dark humor, eccentric characters, and Margery Allingham’s keen eye for the tensions beneath respectable English family life.
