Leni is on edge. Fleeing the city and a stalking former boyfriend, she rents a cottage on an island to write a new book. But her vision of living in an idyllic setting near the beach is shattered when residents in a hollow on a dead-end dirt road conspire against her, seeking to drive her out.

Locals surround the cottage, banging pots and pans together and howling in the dark, intent on sending her running away. The head of the Road Association knocks on her door, saying the cottage should be used as a clubhouse and community park.

When Leni turns on the faucet, rusty-brown well water gushes out. A strange man watches her from up in a tree, singing eerie songs. Worst of all, she worries her controlling ex will track her down, but she’d rather die than go back to him.
