With its 26 World Heritage Sites, Iran is one of the top 10 countries in the world that represent a masterpiece of human creativity and an exceptional testimony to human civilisation. It was 13,000 years ago on the Iranian plateau that Homo sapiens first settled with the advent of agriculture and the first permanent human settlement. Zoroastrianism, the world's first monotheistic religion, originated in Persia 4,000 years ago.
