Over the years, online content has had its fair share of strange evolutions – but nothing comes close to this. This week, we’re dissecting a very specific and strange TikTok from a user who reacts to viewer donations at record speeds, and trying to figure out just what it means for the future of content.

First, we try to figure out exactly what it is that makes this content so strange. We come to the conclusion that it’s essentially the next step in childrens’ content. But what is the actual demographic for these things? How long are people watching? Does it have any sort of longevity at all?

This TikTok also sparked a pretty strong connection to Kevin’s youth, as he draws the comparison to Richard Pryor’s hit 1982 film “The Toy.” We talk about the shocking similarities to the plot of that movie, as well as some clear comparisons to Mr. Beast’s content.

Sure, this type of content can be pretty easy to laugh at or brush off – but is it valid entertainment? Why do people like it? Is it just a sign of generational change? How does it compare to things like mukbangs, or even Family Guy?

We finish off the episode by talking about the different evolutions of media over the generations, and how people react to them. Things like this seem pretty dumb now, but the past may not have been as scholarly as you think, as evident by the hit song “There’s a Skeeter on my Peter.” We talk about a possible shift in the perception of this content, ways it could evolve, and the overall agency of these creators at large.

Thanks to everyone who tuned in this week, and a big shout out to our patrons. You really make this show happen. We’ll see you all again next week!
