MORI: The Lost Ones Volume 1

In this hallucinatory, emotionally charged work of weird fiction, a self-destructive man who came to Los Angeles to disappear is drawn into a search for missing people—by a voice only he can hear.

The journal Miles "Mori" Morhart left behind in a Los Angeles hotel room appears at first to be the wry, world-weary record of a man who walked away from his family because he believes they're better off without him, content to end his drunken days alone in the astrologic haze of Hollywood.

But the journal soon becomes something far stranger. A voice calls out to Mori from "across the Cosmic Gulf"—a man on the other side, searching for the wife and daughter he has lost. And Mori, who knows better than to answer disembodied voices, answers anyway.

The search pulls Mori out of his isolation, toward the woman next door he can't stop thinking about and her small circle of friends, whose lives have also been shadowed by missing loved ones. Together, they're drawn into a dark and strange Los Angeles: psychedelic visions, occult rituals, true-crime dead ends, and urban legends that don't stay legends.

The deeper they go, the clearer it becomes that the disappearances are connected, and the closer they get to the truth, the more it threatens to pull them under too.

This is weird fiction with a broken heart: darkly humorous, genre-blurring, and quietly devastating. A story about whether grace can still reach someone who has stopped believing they deserve it.
