Meditations is a series of challenging spiritual reflections and exercises developed as the Emperor Marcus Aurelius sought to understand himself and make sense of the universe. Composed during his military campaigns, this timeless collection is still revered as a literary monument to a government of service and study and has been consulted and admired by statesmen and thinkers throughout the centuries. Marcus Aurelius (121–180 CE) was a Roman emperor and Stoic philosopher best known for his Meditations. These writings serve as a guide to living a meaningful life amid adversity, and he is widely admired for his philosophical insights and dedication to duty. Often regarded as one of history's "Five Good Emperors," his legacy as a philosopher-king endures, inspiring leaders and thinkers to this day.
