Learn Blues Guitar: The Fretboard View Method

Which note, over which chord, and why.

This course starts with the box of five notes every blues player learns first, and then answers the question the box leaves open: what each of those notes does when the chord changes under it.

How it works

Every lesson makes one claim and shows it on diagrams made from the notes themselves, each set where the explanation needs it, then ends on one thing to play before the next lesson starts. The six parts run from the twelve-bar form to the jazz blues, and two short history chapters, with their sources, open the first two parts.

What is in it

• Six parts, thirty-eight lessons, and two history chapters. The form and the groove, then a first voice with bends, vibrato and phrasing. Then hearing the changes, and playing round them. Then the whole neck. The last part is the jazz blues, with passing chords, guide tones and arpeggios over the changes. • A chart for every note over every chord, so you can see which notes rest, which lean and which want to bend, bar by bar through the form. • One thing to play at the end of every lesson, on your own guitar.
