‘Komatipoort Bridge’ is an exciting story of espionage and Special Forces operations during the Boer War. The book is also a poignant commentary on the British Empire at its zenith. In 1899 the two Boer Republics of the Transvaal and Orange Free State invade the British colonies in South Africa. In doing so, they lose access to British-controlled ports and are forced to rely on a single supply line from the Portuguese-owned harbour at Lourenco Marques which enters the Transvaal over a railway bridge at the tiny settlement of Komatipoort. William Brown, a former Army officer and businessman with a close knowledge of the area, is recruited to choke off the supply line set up by the Boers.
