Die Arbeitsgemeinschaft Christlicher Kirchen in Deutschland hat das Jahr 2021 / 2022 zum - Jahr der Ökumene - ausgerufen. Zahlreiche christliche Gemeinschaften, Kirchen und Vereinigungen beteiligen sich hieran mit eigenen Beiträgen, ökumenischen Gottesdiensten und verschiedenen Projekten. Vor diesem Hintergrund entstand auch dieses Buch zu John Wesley ´Acht mal Liebe´ Zitate, Gedanken und Interpretationen.
John Wesley (1703-1791) war anglikanischer Pastor, Begründer der methodistischen Bewegung, Evangelist, Theologe, Sozialreformer und überzeugter Ökumeniker. Von Beginn an setzte er sich sozial- diakonisch ein. Kämpfte für Reformen u.a. im Gefängniswesen und die Abschaffung der Sklaverei. Wesley richtete Volksbibliotheken ein und sammelte Geld zur Errichtung einer Poliklinik ein und eröffnete Apotheken für Arme.
In zahlreichen Schriften und Predigten Wesleys ist die Liebe zentrales Element und Botschaft zugleich. In Zeiten wie diesen lohnt es besonders das Wort der Liebe weiterzugeben.
Die Texte befinden sich zweisprachig, auf Deutsch und Englisch in diesem Buch.
