It Can Only Get Better

Alva seems to have it all, but despite a beloved son, she feels unhappy. She longs to return to work instead of being on maternity leave, and can't help envying her sister Sanna, whose life seems so much simpler. By chance, Alva meets 75-year-old Magdalena, who is struggling with a complicated relationship with her adult son, and this becomes the start of an unexpected friendship and mutual support.

Sanna is content with single life and enjoys her apartment on Mariaberget. She doesn't want to risk dating a man as controlling as her ex. But during a trip to Croatia, she meets Calle, who is everything her ex wasn't, and a sparkling love blossoms. But something is holding Calle back, and Sanna soon realizes it's his relationship with his mother.

Magdalena lives with her dog in Östermalm. She has lived a bitter life since being abandoned during her pregnancy with Calle. To ease the guilt over having let this ruin their relationship, she steals. For the first time, she opens up to Alva about her relationship with her son. This paves the way for trying to set things right, but when Calle meets a woman, everything falls apart for Magdalena. She is determined to be the only woman in her son's life.
