Dieses Buch möchte ermutigen, indem es theologisch provoziert. Geschrieben wurde es für alle, die Verantwortung für ihre Kirche übernehmen wollen. Es wendet sich also an alle Getauften. In den gegenwärtigen Krisen der Kirche plädiert es für einen hoffnungsvollen Realismus. Die einzelnen Impulse des pointiert argumentierenden Bochumer Systematikers Günter Thomas fügen sich wie Puzzlestücke zu einem Bild: Gottes Lebendigkeit ernst nehmen; sich als Glaubende im Weltabenteuer Gottes entdecken; kühn anerkennen, in einer noch unerlösten Welt zu leben; und vor allem als Kirche mit Verwegenheit Glaube, Liebe und Hoffnung bezeugen. Denn darum geht es Gott bei seinem Weltabenteuer. Nur wenn Christen ihren speziellen Ort im Drama Gottes besetzen, kann sich eine doppelte Befreiung ereignen: die Befreiung von manischer Selbstüberschätzung ihrer öffentlichen Relevanz und die Befreiung von einer lähmenden Erschöpfungsdepression, die sich angesichts düsterer Zukunftsprognosen schleichend verbreitet.

The individual impulses of the pointedly arguing systematic theologian Günter Thomas (Ruhr-University Bochum) fit together like pieces of a puzzle to form a picture: take God's vitality seriously; discover oneself as believer in God's world adventure; boldly acknowledge to live in an unredeemed world; and above all as a church testify to faith, love and hope with audacity. For that is what God is all about in his world adventure.
