In this episode of "If by Chance", we travel to Karachi, a city on the south side of Pakistan, and delve into the raw and candid realities of living amidst political turmoil and recurrent security threats. However, our conversation takes an inspiring turn as we connect with Billy, a former opioid addict turned saviour, who now runs a treatment facility aiding others in their battle against addiction. Billy's ten-year journey of sobriety and his struggles to break the cycle of addiction in a neighbourhood infested with drug abuse serves as a beacon of hope. Despite dealing with the inadequate judicial system and societal pressures, his courage and passion drive him forward. We also discuss the cultural diversity of Pakistan's provinces and the challenges facing its people. Finally, we explore potential avenues for providing meaningful aid to foster positive change.

Taming AI: Biases, Privacy & The Future of Cloned Voices

In this episode of "If by Chance", Katerina shares the journey of launching her online educational platform, ENGin, while pregnant with her second child. Coincidentally, the startup began just before the COVID-19 pandemic, accelerating its growth as people sought online activities. Choosing to help Ukrainian youth improve their English speaking skills, ENGin has since served over 37,000 students, pairing them one-on-one with volunteers worldwide. Katerina emphasises the importance of forming connections beyond the language aspect, citing personal relationships as a core part of the experience. Katerina discusses the challenges of running a non-profit and shares the lessons she's learned along the way with what she wishes she knew starting out.

She reveals plans for developing revenue-generating activities to sustain the organisation and to continue serving and making a difference in the Ukrainian community.
