Gustave Flaubert is acknowledged as a writer of the first rank who's remarkable creation "Madame Bovary" is still passed on through the generations as a classic novel and an icon of Western literature. Born in Rouen in France on December 12th, Flaubert is also admired for his Correspondence, and for his scrupulous devotion to his perfectionist style and aesthetics. Here we publish "Hérodias", one of his short stories that is the retelling of the beheading of John the Baptist. Gustave died on May 8th 1880 at the age of 58. He was buried in the family vault in the cemetery of Rouen.
