Golda Meir: A Life from Beginning to End

Golda Meir began her career as a grassroots activist whose tireless efforts helped ensure the creation of a Jewish homeland. As a diplomat and negotiator, she played a pivotal role in securing the recognition and funding that made the founding of Israel possible in 1948. She would go on to serve as the new nation’s foreign minister and, ultimately, as its prime minister—one of the first women in the world to hold such an office.

Her dedication to the cause came at a great personal cost, however, since her own family was often neglected by her absence from their lives. Her children would long speak of how lonely they were without their mother. Yet in light of all she had achieved, Golda Meir readily declared that she would do it all again if she had to. Because for her, there were some things that were bigger than herself—bigger even than her own family. She had latched onto a goal she wished to see to fruition, and she wasn't going to let anything stop her. This is the life and the long-lasting legacy of Golda Meir.
