Dombey and Son

Dombey and Son deals with the topic of feminism. The focus of the novel is on what happens when Dombey has a daughter instead of the desired son. Mrs. Dombey dies shortly after giving birth to her second child, a long-awaited son. It follows the fortunes of a shipping firm owner, who is frustrated at the lack of a son to follow him in his footsteps; he initially rejects his daughter's love before eventually becoming reconciled with her before his death.
