David Rodriguez (1952–2015) was a celebrated American singer-songwriter whose life was marked by early illness, personal struggles, and an enduring love for music.

David Roland Rodriguez (1952) fell gravely ill as a toddler. The illness left him with limitations from a young age, but it also brought him into contact with his greatest love: music. As a musician and songwriter, he rose to fame in the United States. For a while, he took a detour into law, and was even nearly elected senator in Texas, but music never truly let him go. After many wanderings, David eventually settled for good in the historic city of Dordrecht. There, he earned his living as a (street) musician and as a songwriter for other artists. In the lyrics he wrote, David told his own life story. He struggled throughout his life with the traumas of his childhood. Music was his comfort, his outlet. Music never abandoned him. Toward the end of his life, he finally felt safe, at peace, and free in that small harbor town of Dordrecht, but then fate struck...
