Allan Quatermain: The Hunter's Last Journey into Africa

The hunter of King Solomon's Mines goes back into the interior, older and grieving, to look for a white race said to live beyond the lakes. Haggard had been a colonial official in Natal and the Transvaal at twenty and wrote Africa from having lived in it; this is the book in which he says goodbye to Quatermain, having killed him off before the public objected. Thirty-nine plates of storm, shipwreck and harbour, among them works by Alfred Worthington and Joseph Heard, give the voyage its weather.
