A Journey to the Center of the Earth

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. In a narrow old house in Hamburg, the brilliant and impatient Professor Otto Lidenbrock finds a scrap of parchment hidden in a rare Icelandic saga. Written in runes and in code, it is a message from Arne Saknussemm, a sixteenth-century alchemist, who claims to have travelled down the crater of an extinct volcano in Iceland and reached the center of the earth. The professor decides at once to follow him, and drags along his reluctant nephew Axel, who would much rather stay at home with the professor's goddaughter Gräuben.

With their calm and fearless Icelandic guide Hans, the three men climb into the crater of Snæfellsjökull and begin a descent into the unknown: endless galleries and shafts, thirst and darkness, a vast underground sea lit by a strange electric glow, forests of giant mushrooms, and creatures that should have vanished from the world long ago.

First published in 1864, A Journey to the Center of the Earth is one of Jules Verne's most famous Extraordinary Voyages, a story of science, courage and wonder that has inspired readers and filmmakers for more than a century. This new translation presents the complete novel, read in full.
