Fakta
A History of British Tradition by F. J. Drake-Carnell offers a detailed exploration of England’s traditional life, tracing the grand pageantry of state, such as the opening of Parliament, and the enduring rituals of rural communities.
Drawing on historical records, antiquarian sources, and first-hand accounts, Drake-Carnell reconstructs the seasonal rhythms and communal practices that once structured English society. From May Day revels, harvest home feasts, and wassailing, to royal ceremonies, church ales, and curious tenures, these customs reflect a cultural continuity that links ancient belief with social identity.
From the pomp and pageantry of royal coronations and the Houses of Parliament to the timeless rhythms of village life, this book is a captivating journey through the heart of England's past. Both a historical resource and a celebration of England’s folk heritage, this volume is essential reading for folklorists, social historians, and anyone interested in the history of traditional English life.
