Here is a near complete list of persons identifiable as Jews in America by 1800, the result of a thorough search of manuscript materials and published literature for the names of Jews who lived in America (including Canada up to 1783) during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

No other study provides comparable information for such an ethnic group in this country. The result of a years-long effort that began as a rabbinical thesis for the Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion and was eventually expanded, it serves as an essential reference for historians and other researchers.
