In today’s episode, we continue our Names of God series with “The Good Shepherd.”
We’ll hear Jesus’ story about the lost sheep from Luke 15 and discover what it means when He says in John 10:11,

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.”

Through gentle storytelling and vivid imagery, children will learn what shepherds do, why sheep need so much care, and how Jesus is our Good Shepherd who seeks and saves His lost sheep.

This episode helps kids understand that:

 
We are the sheep — easily distracted, often wandering off.

 
Jesus is the Good Shepherd — the one who goes after us, finds us, and carries us home.

 
He did all the work to save us — even giving His life on the cross so that we could belong to Him forever.

In today’s episode, we continue our series The Names of God by learning about the special name Elohim. This Hebrew word means Mighty One, Strong One. Did you know that the very first verse of the Bible begins with this name? We’ll walk through Genesis 1 and 2, hearing again and again how Elohim spoke the universe into existence—light, sky, land, plants, stars, animals, and people—out of nothing at all.

As we listen, we’ll discover that Elohim is not only powerful enough to create the heavens and the earth, but also powerful enough to care for you. When you see the stars at night or enjoy petting your dog remember: our God, Elohim, is the Creator of everything—and He calls you precious.

#389: What’s in a Name? - The Names of God – Part 1

Genesis 37-50, Romans 12:9, Isaiah 5:20m Proverbs 2:14-15, Proverbs 8:13, Matthew 5:44, Ephesians 6:10-12, 2 Corinthians 4:7–9, John 16:33

In today’s special episode, we talk about evil in our world but keep details age-appropriate and I point them to what God’s Word says about it.

 My children have been asking really good questions about this due to events and I thought we should address it. Using the story of Joseph, the cross of Jesus, and even a recent story, we discover four big truths:

 God can use what was meant for evil for good.

 We must hate what is evil and cling to what is good.

 We are called to love our enemies and fight with prayer, truth, and love.

 We have real hope because of Jesus.

This episode may feel a little different than our usual storytelling, but I believe it will help children think biblically when they have questions about hard things.

My hope is that today’s episode gives you a strong starting place and sparks meaningful conversations with your children.

In this episode, we hear Jesus’ words about treasure and our eye…..huh? At first, it can sound confusing — what do our eyes have to do with treasure? But Jesus is teaching us how to see clearly: to treasure God above money and things.

Kids will understand:

 Money and things aren’t bad — they can be tools to help others.

 What matters most is how we see them and how we use them.

 A “good eye” sees the truth: God is more beautiful and precious than anything money can buy.

#387: Full of Light - What a Good Eye Sees

Luke 10:1–4, 17–20

 In this week’s episode Jesus sends out 72 followers to share the good news. When they return, they are amazed — even the demons obeyed in Jesus’ name! But Jesus teaches them something even greater: “Do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

 Jesus sent out 72 workers to prepare the way and tell people that God’s kingdom had come.

 The disciples were amazed by the power they saw, like superheroes in real life.

 Jesus reminded them that the greatest joy isn’t power — it’s knowing that our names are written in heaven.

 If you believe in Jesus, you belong to Him forever. That’s better than any superpower.

#386: Not Power, But Your Name in Heaven

John 6:25–35

In today’s episode we hear Jesus tell the crowd, “I am the Bread of Life.” First, we remember how God fed His people with manna in the wilderness. Then, we hear the crowd ask Jesus for a sign, and He explains that He is the true bread from heaven — the one who can fill our hearts forever. 

Kids will understand what the word eternal means and we will talk about yummy foods like pizza, ice cream, and lollipops — and how they don’t last forever, but Jesus does. He alone is the one who gives us joy and eternal life.

👉 Parents, today’s takeaway: God is a good Father who gives us wonderful gifts to enjoy, but our hearts are made to love Him most.

#385: Moldy Bread or the Bread of Life

Luke 18:1-8

Have you ever prayed for something over and over, and it felt like no one was listening? In today’s episode, we hear Jesus tell a parable — a special story with a deeper meaning — about a woman who didn’t give up.

She kept going to a judge who didn’t care about God or people. She begged for justice until he finally gave in. Jesus used this story to teach us something powerful: God is not like that unfair judge. God is good, just, and always listening to our prayers.

In this episode, kids will learn:

 What a parable is.

 What justice means in words they can understand

 What it means to be persistent

 Why Jesus wants us to keep praying and not lose heart.

Together we’ll see how God hears us when we pray and promises to make all things right in His perfect timing.

 All of our readings have something in common....they speak of God's love for us. We are reminded of God's promises that hold true even when we do not feel it. The kids think about what having a bad day feels like and we discuss how feelings are important but sometimes, they can trick us to forget the truth. This is where we turn to our Bible and remind ourselves the truth of just how much God loves us regardless of if the day we are having feels like a good one or a bad one.
