This episode’s guest is Ashley Zumwalt-Forbes. Ashley is a born and raised Oklahoma native with a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. 

Ashley is the co-founder and President of Black Mountain Metals, where her company is betting big on the raw materials that will supply the future growth in energy storage.

The Talk Energy Direct series is a way for me to connect directly with listeners in an unscripted way that is unformatted and therefore open ended on how I take it each episode. I’ll likely be doing recaps and behind the scenes commentary on the main episodes as well as talking about topical issues in the energy industry. More than anything I just wanted another way to connect with listeners and keep creating content.

#2: TE Direct: 01/11/21

This episode’s guest is Alex Epstein the author of the Moral Case for Fossil Fuels and the founder of the Center for Industrial Progress. 

Alex is a Philosopher by trade and is known for his objectivism and using critical thinking to craft his arguments. Many may think of Alex as just an advocate for the fossil fuels industry, but in practical terms fossil fuels are just a means to his end. 

Alex’s true loyalty lies in whatever form of energy will bring prosperity and flourishing to human conditions around the world. 

This episode is filled with discussion around social media censorship, the paradoxes of the modern energy debate, and if there is a possibility for fossil fuels and renewables to co-exist.

#3: The Philosopher

This episode's guest is Mike Umbro, the Principal of FieldView Capital and VP of Corporate Development at RL Environmental. Mike has spent his career working in the oil & gas industry in California and is actively working to revitalize some of its oil fields. 

California has some of the strictest environmental regulations in the country and subsequently some of the cleanest oil fields, yet the state's current administration is trying to shut down California's oil industry in favor of importing its energy from some of the world's worst environmental offenders. 

This episode's filled with discussions about what it's like working in oil & gas in California, we talk about how Mike's company is pioneering new environmental technologies to clean up the oil field and boost economic productivity, and lastly we talk about California's energy policies and whether or not they are actually helping or hurting the environment they are trying to save.
