पठने आसक्तिः

भूतपूर्वराष्ट्रपतिः मान्यः के आर् नारायणन्वर्यः बाल्यकाले सर्वदा शालां प्रति विलम्बेन आगच्छति स्म यतः सः प्रतिदिनं मातुः साहाय्यं कृत्वा अष्ट कि.मी. दूरतः पादाभ्यामेव आगच्छति स्म । किन्तु पठने सः अन्ये छात्राः इव एव आसीत् । एकदा विलबेन आगतवन्तं तं अध्यापकः तर्जयित्वा कक्ष्यायां प्रवेष्टुं न अनुमतवान् । बालः म्लानमुखः सन् कक्ष्यातः बहिः तिष्ठन् कक्ष्यायां बोधितान् सर्वान् अंशान् पुस्तके लिखितवान् । एतत् दृष्ट्वा नितरां सन्तुष्टः अध्यापकः तस्य विलबस्य कारणं ज्ञात्वा दयार्द्रः जातः । (“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”) The former President, Shri K. R. Narayanan, was often late for school as a child because he helped his mother and walked 8 km to school. However, he was just like the other students in his studies. One day, when he was late, the teacher scolded him and didn’t let him enter the class. The boy, looking sad, stood outside and wrote down all the lessons in his book. Seeing this, the teacher, pleased with his dedication, became kind-hearted after learning the reason for his delay.
