One of the key aspects of Dahomey’s rise was its strong central government. Unlike many other African polities of the time, Dahomey’s monarchy operated with an intricate administrative system. The king, known as the Ahosu, wielded absolute power but was supported by a council of advisors and military leaders who ensured efficient governance.
